UPDATE: March 25, 2024
Late open days have adjusted to the following: May 15 is now May 22, and October 16 is now October 23.
To prioritize staff safety, the Comox Strathcona Waste Management (CSWM) Board is taking necessary steps for required training by adjusting opening hours at the Comox Valley Waste Management Centre (CVWMC) four times this year, starting in 2024.
Training requirements identified by WorkSafeBC and other internal safety standards are being prioritized for CSWM employees. This adjustment in opening hours will enhance staff emergency preparedness for natural disasters and climate change events, and ensures compliance of safety regulations.
The operational hours at the CVWMC will be 12:00 – 5:30 pm on the following 2024 days:
- Wednesday, January 31
- Wednesday, May 22
- Wednesday, July 17
- Wednesday, October 23
Normal operating hours on all other days will be 8:00 am to 5:30 pm.
“This change is crucial for the safety compliance, operational effectiveness, and emergency preparedness of the Comox Valley Waste Management Centre,” explains CSWM Board Co-Chair Will Cole-Hamilton. “The schedule was strategically planned to minimize impact on partner municipalities and commercial customers to align with lower periods of facility traffic.”
Commercial customers and affected municipalities have been contacted about the changes. For more information on facility hours, visit www.cswm.ca/hours.
The Comox Strathcona Waste Management service area is located in the Coast Salish, Kwakwaka’wakw, and Nuu-chah-nulth territories.
