CSWM is asking residents to minimize non-essential trips to the landfill

Published On

Under the current circumstances we are asking that residents do their best to reduce demands on waste facilities. If you have access to a municipal curbside collection and recycling program, please refrain from using the landfills at this time. Rural residents without curbside pickup should limit their visits to yard and essential waste only.

The Comox Valley Waste Management Centre and other Comox Strathcona Waste Management service facilities have been experiencing record customer volumes. In addition to increased customer traffic due to spring cleaning and yard maintenance, measures in place to protect the public and workers from exposure to COVID-19 are resulting in long line ups and extended wait times.

These facilities are open at this time to provide essential waste disposal services to their communities. In an effort to reduce the risk to staff and customers and to avoid a reduction in the level of service we can provide, we are asking for the cooperation of the public. Before you head to your local garbage and recycling facility, please consider if your trip is essential or if you could hold off.

As a reminder, customers are expected to follow the COVID-19 safety requirements for using the site and be civil in their conduct with both other customers and staff. Behaviours contributing to an unsafe work environment, including abusive or offensive language, will not be tolerated.
