The Comox Strathcona Garden Education Centre in Campbell River has re-opened for the season as of July 1, 2021. Throughout the months of July and August, the centre will be open for drop in visitors from 10:00 am to 3:00 pm, Thursday to Saturday.
Comox Strathcona Waste Management (CSWM) initially delayed the opening of the Garden Education Centre, which normally opens in late April, due to the ongoing pandemic and latest provincial direction. As provincial restrictions ease, CSWM is pleased to welcome back visitors.
The Garden Education Centre is located at 228 South Dogwood Street, next to St. Peter’s Anglican Church in Campbell River. Visitors can explore the gardens and learn about various ways to compost their food scraps in order to divert compostable waste from the landfill. The centre offers demonstrations, samples and handouts about how to properly compost and have a healthy, pesticide-free garden.
Every Saturday throughout July and August, stop by at 11:00 am and 2:00 pm to participate in a family-friendly pop-up workshop. Our on-site educators will be covering a range of topics, from home composting to beneficial garden insects. No registration is required.

The Comox Strathcona Waste Management service is a function of the Comox Valley Regional District (CVRD) and is responsible for two regional waste management centres that serve the Comox Valley and Campbell River, as well as a range of transfer stations and smaller waste handling and recycling facilities for the electoral areas of the CVRD and the Strathcona Regional District. The CSWM service manages over 100,000 tonnes of waste and recycled material and oversees a number of diversion and education programs.
